BS-MS Dual Degree at IISER


Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) has notified the admissions to the five year BS-MS Dual Degree Programme 2013 at Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram for the academic session starting in August 2013. Applicant should have passed Class XII in 2012 or should be appearing in the said examination in 2013.


Those satisfying any one of the following three criteria are eligible to apply through different streams.
(i) Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY): Those who have qualified in SA (2011)/SX(2012)/SB (2012)/SP (Passed Class XII in 2012/2013)
(ii) Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) 2013: Applicant should have obtained a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in Class XII and should secure a place in the rank list of JEE Advanced) for admission to the IITs. Such candidates should be in the top 20 percentile list of successful candidates of their Boards in respective categories (General, SC, ST, OBC and PD). For SC/ST/PD applicants, the required percentage of aggregate marks in Class XII will be 55%.
(iii) State and Central Boards: Those who have passed Class XII in 2012 or are appearing for Class XII examination in 2013 in Science stream with either (i) aggregate marks above or equal to the cut-off percentage declared by DST as eligibility for INSPIRE Scholarship ((See www.inspire-dst.gov.in /) with OBC (NCL)/PD Category applicants having a 5% relaxation in DST cut-off mark and cut-off for SC/ST applicants being 55% in Class XII for all Boards or (ii) advisory note for the eligibility for Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) under the INSPIRE scheme. Those applying in State and Central Boards stream will be required to appear and qualify in the IISER Aptitude Test.

Admission to IISERs in the three streams is based on ranking in KVPY, ranking in IIT-JEE (Advanced)-2013 or merit in the Aptitude test conducted by IISERs, respectively. Each IISER admits 150 students. The total intake will be 750. A specified number of students will be admitted through each channel. Of the 750 seats, up to 25% seats in each category (General/SC/ST/OBC Non-creamy) will be through KVPY channel, up to 50% seats in each category (General/SC/ST/OBC Non-creamy) will be from KVPY + JEE (Advanced) channels and the remaining seats in each category through Central and State Boards channel based on an Aptitude test conducted by IISERs.

A candidate meeting the eligibility criterion for multiple channels can apply for selection under multiple channels. However, they have to submit  separate application for each channel and should pay seperate application fee for each channel.

All five IISERs admit students through a common application and counselling process. Applicant will have facility to give preferences in the application form for the different IISERs. Allotment is purely on the basis of the applicant's preferences and the ranks as applicable to the concerned stream.

Applicants can choose any one of the IISERs for counseling while applying. Applications can be submitted only online as per the schedule announced for each channel of admission and following the instructions at the website. The application fee for each channel is Rs.600/-. For SC/ST category, the fee is Rs.300/-.

Online applications will be received under the KVPY Scheme from 1st April 2013 to 3rd July, 2013. For JEE (Advanced) stream, the time period for online application is 26th June to 3rd July, 2013. For the State and Central Boards stream, the time period for online submission of application is 15th June to 8th July, 2013. The Counselling/Aptitude Test (as applicable) for the three streams will be 8th July, 8th July and 20th July, 2013 respectively.  The last date for receiving admission fees under the three streams is 16th July, 16th July and 29th July, 2013 respectively. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for counseling. There is no interview at the time of counseling.

The fee for counselling is Rs. 1000/- for General/OBC/PD applicants and Rs. 500/- for SC/ST and the amount has to be paid in cash at the time of counseling. Allotment to an IISER is final. No application for transfer to another IISER will be entertained.

All students admitted to BS - MS Programme are eligible for a monthly scholarship of Rs. 5000/- awarded by KVPY/INSPIRE scheme as per DST norm, subject to consistently good academic record.
