The
United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) has invited applications for
the award of the Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowships, for 2014-15 Awards. The
scheme is designed for outstanding Indians to pursue a Master's Degree
Programme at selected U.S Colleges and Universities in the areas of Arts and
Culture Management including Heritage Conservation and Museum Studies,
Environmental Science/Studies, Higher Education Administration, Public Health,
Urban and Regional Planning and Women's Studies/Gender Studies.
Applicant
should be ahighly motivated individual who has demonstrated leadership qualities, completed the
equivalent of a U.S Bachelor's Degree, has at least three years professional
work experience and is committed to return and contribute to their communities.
The fellowships are for one to two years.
The
fellowship will provide J-1 visa support, round-trip economy class air travel
from fellow's home city to the host institution in the U.S; Funding for tuition
and fees (USIEF funding may not cover all costs and the scholar may need to
supplement grant benefits with other resources), living and related costs
andAccident and Sickness Program for Exchanges per U.S. Government guidelines.
There will not be any financial support for dependents.
In
addition to the General Prerequisites given at www.usief.org.in/ GeneralPrerequisites.aspx,
applicants should have completed an equivalent of a U.S Bachelor's Degree from
a recognized Indian University with at least 55% marks. Applicants should
either possess a four-year Bachelor's Degree or a completed Master's Degree, if
the Bachelor's Degree is of less than four years' duration, should have at
least three years' full-time (paid or voluntary) professional work experience
relevant to their proposed field of study, should demonstrate experience in
leadership and community service, should not have another Degree from a U.S
University or be enrolled in a U.S Degree programme.
Each
applicant should choose one field of study that matches his/her chief area of
interest. The field descriptions given here are only illustrative. Applicants
should note that programmes of study at academic host institution may differ in
course offerings, subspecialties, and academic requirements.
(i) Arts and Culture Management including
Heritage Conservation and Museum Studies: The study of all aspects of art
and culture management, including arts administration, heritage conservation
and museum studies, management of profit and not-for-profit art institutions,
among others. These fellowships are not
for pursuing graduate degrees in fine or applied art and design or art history,
but for the management of the arts.
(ii) Environmental Science/Studies: The
study of the environment in all its complexities. Subspecialties include:
environmental toxicology, natural resource management, pollution prevention,
environmental law, environmental engineering and environmental policy analysis,
among others.
(iii) Higher Education Administration:
The study of all aspects of higher education administration including policy
planning and management, student affairs, academic affairs, admissions and enrollment
management, curriculum design, learning assessment, financial management,
alumni and community relations, internationalization of higher education,
quality assurance, use of technology in higher education, among others.
(iv) Public Health: The study of all
aspects of public health including biostatistics, environmental and
occupational health, epidemiology, health law, bioethics and human rights,
health policy and management, public health delivery systems, international
health, and reproductive, maternal and child health, among others
(v) Urban and Regional Planning: The
study of all aspects of urban and regional planning, including infrastructure,
transportation policy and planning, water and sanitation, town and rural
planning, land use, housing and real estate development, and waste management,
among others
(vi) Women's Studies/Gender Studies:
The study of issues relevant to women, feminism, and gender including
development, health, history, education, sexuality, law, and policy, among
others.

Applicants
who wish to obtain the relevant application form through e-mail, as an
attachment, should send a request to ip@usief.org.in , specifying the grant
category in the subject line. A person can apply for only one Fulbright-Nehru
fellowship category during a competition cycle.Applicant should follow the
instructions given on the first page of each fellowship application form. All
entries in the application form must be computer-generated and not
hand-written. Please do not exceed the word limit or attach additional pages to
answer questions, unless otherwise specified.
Applicants
are required to submit the completed application as an e-mail attachment,
unless otherwise specified. In addition, applicant should print a copy of the
application and sign it. If applicant is not employed, the signed copy is to be
forwarded to the USIEF office in the region of the applicant. If applicant is
employed, the signed application, including enclosures, if any, should be
forwarded through the appropriate administrative authority, to the USIEF office
within the region of the applicant. In case of central or state government
employees, the signed copy of the application should be forwarded through the
cadre controlling authority so as to reach USIEF by the deadline. Applications
must reach USIEF by the specified due date or the following business day if the
due date falls on a weekend/holiday.Incomplete or late applications or
applications not forwarded through the proper channel will not be considered.
Applicants
are also advised to request three referees to send in their recommendations as
per the instructions given on the first page of each fellowship application
form. The recommendations should reach ‘The Executive Director, USIEF,
Fulbright House, 12 Hailey Road, New Delhi 110 001’, by the due date of
application. In case of employed candidates, the employer's comments in the
application form must indicate that leave will be granted for the fellowship.

Application
due date for 2014-2015 awards is July 1, 2013. The Field-specific screening
committees will review applications to short-list candidates, between
July-August 2013.The National interviews of short-listed candidates will be
held in Delhi, in early August 2013. USIEF will notify the finalists and
alternates that they have recommended and they will have to take tests (TOEFL/GRE/GMAT/TSE)
in late August 2013. USIEF is to forward the applications of recommended
candidates to the U.S for Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) approval
and placement in October 2013. USIEF will notify the finalists in March-April
2014. Pre-Departure Orientation will be in May-June 2014 and Pre-academic
training in the U.S. (if required) will be in July-August 2014. The Degree
programme begins in August-September 2014.
Placement
of successful candidates is done by the Institute of International Education
(IIE), New York. Recommended applicants are not required to apply to U.S.
institutions on their own. IIE/Fulbright Program will apply to four different
institutions on their behalf, taking into consideration the candidates’
preferred institutions and the candidates’ competitiveness. If a recommended
candidate has previously applied to U.S institutions and has requested a
deferral from the institution, the candidate must notify USIEF immediately. If
a recommended candidate already has a deferral, then IIE will not apply to any
other institution and will seek to confirm placement only at the deferral
institution.
