SJ Merit Scholarship for UG/PG



Applications can be submitted by eligible candidates, till 11th December, 2012 at http://dcescholarship.kerala.gov.in/ for the Suvarna Jubilee Merit Scholarship (SJMS) for 2012-13.


Applicant should be studying for the first year of the Under Graduate or Post Graduate Programmes in a Government/Aided Arts and Science College or in a University Department in Kerala, and should have scored 50% or above in the qualifying Examination. Applicant should be a member of a family having income below poverty line. The scholarship amount is Rs.10000/- per year which will be deposited into the Bank Account of the candidates selected. Applicant should have a Bank Account in his/her name in State Bank of Travancore (SBT).

The number of Scholarships for each College will be proportional to the number of candidates studying in the college. Applicant from SC/ST categories will be allotted 10% of the total available Scholarships. 10 Scholarships are reserved for those belonging to the PWD category and another 5 for those excelling in Arts/Sports at State/National levels.

Those in receipt of any other Scholarship are not eligible for this scholarship. However, the Lump-sum Grant received by the SC/ST candidates is exempted for the purpose of this provision. The list of candidates identified for the receipt of the scholarship, prepared by the Head of the Institution with the approval of the College Council, and the related documents should be retained in the college itself.

Applications: Application has to be submitted ‘ONLINE’ at the Scholarship Website of Department of Collegiate Education, Kerala, www.dcescholarship.kerala.gov.in latest by 11th December, 2012.

Procedure for Online Submission of Application:
(i) Click the link ‘Suvarna Jubilee Merit Scholarship (SJMS)’ link provided in the Scholarship website
(ii) Click on the button ‘Apply Online’. If the applicant has already registered his/ her name for any other Scholarship at this site, the candidate may login with the previous registration details. Candidates who have not registered earlier for any scholarship (fresh candidates) have to click ‘New Registration’ for registering their name and then ‘Submit’.
(iii) Click ‘SJMS’ Tab in the scholarship page
(iv) Fill in the Annual Income
(v) Select the Category, SC/ST/Others; Answer Whether BPL; Whether Physically Challenged; whether participated in Sports/Arts in National/State level
(vi) Click ‘SUBMIT’

After submitting, the applicant has to take the Registration Printout, paste a passport size photograph, taken within the last six months, on it, and get it attested by the Principal of the present Institution who should sign on it. This has to be submitted it along with the documents listed below, to the Verifying Officer of the Institution, latest by 14th December, 2012.

Documents to be submitted along with Registration Printout:
(i) Attested copy of mark list of SSLC, attested by a Gazetted Officer
(ii) Attested copy of first page of bank pass book in the name of the student, showing account number, name, code etc attested by a Gazetted Officer
(iii) Nativity Certificate
(iv)Certificate from the Local Body to establish that the applicant belongs to the BPL category
(v) Income Certificate
(vi) Copy of the Mark list of Qualifying Examination attested by a Gazetted Officer
(vii) Community Certificate for SC/ST applicants
(viii) Documents in support of excellence in Arts/Sports at State/National levels, attested by a Gazetted Officer
(ix) Disability Certificate in case of candidates of the PWD category

The Online Verification of the applications of students at Institutional level has to be done by the Head of the Institution or the person authorized by him/her after which, the online approval of the applications has to be completed by the Head of the Institution, latest by 17.12.2012.

The approved applications have to be retained in the college and should be submitted fro verification by officials of the Inspection team of the Scholarship Wing of the Directorate, if needed. The Account in the name of the student should be kept active till the amount is transferred to the eligible applicants. The status of the Accounts taken before attaining the age of 18 years which will be ‘minor’, should be changed to ‘Adult’ by the applicant when he/she attains the age of 18, by approaching the branch of the bank from where the account was taken.
